Living My Dream Life
For the past few months, I've been treating myself to a little daily wellness course. They're not long—sometimes just five minutes, sometimes twenty-five—but they've become a lovely part of my day. I simply pick a topic that catches my attention, whether it's breathing, tapping, tai chi, or something completely different, and press play.
Today's lesson was about living your dream life.
As I sat outside on my rug, listening to the birds, the rustling leaves, and the occasional car driving by (thankfully no honking at that moment!), I found myself appreciating exactly where I am today. My two dogs wandered back and forth between the sunny spots and the shade, while my husband happily disappeared into his man cave to play video games without a care in the world.
It made me smile.
Our home isn't large. It's a rental house, but I've made it feel like home. I don't decorate extensively. In fact, many of the things in our house were rescued from the streets of Berkeley. One person's trash really is another person's treasure.
Lately, I've also been making more time for self-care—not just in the mornings, but in the evenings too. A warm foot soak, a gentle face massage, candlelight, and a mug of tea have become my way of slowing down before the day ends. These little rituals remind me to practice what I so often encourage others to do: slow down, breathe, and simply be present.
After all, it's easy to tell someone how to reduce stress. It's much harder—and much more meaningful—to actually live that advice ourselves.
Of course, life still comes with its usual stressors. For me, the biggest one is the constant feeling that I should be more productive or accomplish just one more thing. That voice never seems to disappear completely.
But today's lesson reminded me that perhaps I'm already living a version of my dream life.
Not because everything is perfect, but because I have created a life filled with simple things that bring me joy: meaningful work, people I love, two wonderful dogs, quiet moments, and time to care for myself.
Sometimes we spend so much time chasing the next milestone that we forget to notice the life we've already built.
So today, I'm choosing gratitude.
How about you? When was the last time you paused and realized you might already be living part of your dream life?
