Morning Practice

I think this is my first-ever blog… at least I think it is!

When I woke up this morning, I found myself wondering what my first blog should be about. Then it hit me—why not simply share how I begin my day?

The hardest part is getting out of bed because I love snuggling with my two dogs. They are expert cuddlers and always seem to convince me to stay just a little longer.

Once I'm up, I head to the bathroom, wash my face, scrape my tongue, and then brush my teeth. While I'm doing that, I put a pot of water on to boil so I can enjoy a warm mug of water.

Next comes one of my favorite parts of the morning: my daily abhyanga practice. I gently warm a small amount of oil and spend about 10 to 15 minutes slowly massaging it over my body. There is something incredibly calming and grounding about taking those few quiet moments before the day begins. After that, I take a shower.

By then, my dogs are usually awake and eagerly waiting for breakfast. I feed them their home-cooked meal, and then I enjoy a bowl of steel-cut oats that I cooked overnight in the slow cooker.

And that's how I begin my day.

I remember telling some of my colleagues about my morning routine, and they were surprised that I had enough time to do all of this before work. The truth is, I didn't always.

I made a conscious effort to create time for these small rituals because they help me feel more centered before the day gets busy. It wasn't something I started all at once. Little by little, over weeks and months, each habit found its place.

Some mornings don't go as planned. Sometimes I wake up late or skip my abhyanga altogether. When that happens, I try not to feel guilty or shame myself. I simply remind myself that tomorrow is another opportunity to begin again.

I think that's what many healthy habits are really about—not being perfect, but gently returning to the practices that help us feel our best.

Thank you for joining me for my very first blog. I hope this little glimpse into my morning inspires you to find a simple ritual that helps you start your own day with a little more calm and kindness.
